TSR Completes Major HVAC Upgrade for Gympie Library

When Gympie Library underwent a major roof replacement, it created the perfect opportunity to upgrade the building’s ageing air conditioning system. TSR was engaged to modernise the HVAC infrastructure while keeping disruption to library services to a minimum.
We have been providing commercial air conditioning services to local businesses for over 35 years now, so we understand how to support projects of all sizes, just like the Gympie Library. And the result? The library now has a future-proofed climate control system designed to deliver reliable comfort for decades of community use.
The project: Modernising a community hub
Gympie Library is a busy community space, hosting everything from quiet study sessions to large events and maker space activities. With a new roof underway, council recognised it was the right time to address the building’s outdated HVAC system.
TSR’s scope covered the entire facility, including the main library floor, event spaces, maker areas, and local history collections. Each zone required different temperature, airflow, and humidity considerations to suit both visitors and sensitive materials.
We also needed to consider that libraries aren’t standard commercial buildings. Quiet areas need low-noise operation, event spaces require flexibility for changing crowd sizes, and archival zones rely on stable conditions to protect collections.
What the upgrade involved
The project required close coordination with roofing contractors and other trades working on site. TSR managed the full HVAC upgrade, including:
- Package unit and split system relocation
Existing package and split ducted systems were removed and reinstated onto new aluminium Monkeytoe platforms. This elevated positioning improves drainage, reduces vibration, and allows safer, easier access for future servicing. - New 85kW Temperzone package unit
A new 85kW Temperzone package unit now services the main library floor. Selected for its energy efficiency, reliability, and performance in Queensland conditions, it delivers consistent comfort during peak summer and winter demand. - Five new ceiling cassette systems
New ceiling cassettes were installed throughout the Event Space, Maker Space, and Local History areas. These systems provide even air distribution while maintaining the clean, modern look of the interior spaces. - Complete flexible ductwork replacement
All existing flexible ductwork was removed and replaced with new insulated ducting to improve airflow, eliminate leaks, and restore system efficiency.

Why libraries need specialised HVAC design
Public libraries present challenges that differ from most commercial spaces.
Occupancy levels can shift quickly from quiet periods to large gatherings, requiring systems that respond efficiently without wasting energy. Noise control is critical, as even minor sound disruptions affect concentration. Temperature and humidity stability is also essential to protect books, archives, and equipment from long-term damage.
With operating hours often exceeding 50 hours per week year-round, reliability and energy efficiency are essential.
Managing a complex live site
With roofing works happening overhead and the library remaining operational, timing and coordination were critical. TSR worked closely with all trades to:
- Schedule equipment lifts around roof works
- Protect internal spaces during duct replacement
- Maintain temporary cooling where required
- Test and commission systems without disrupting library operations
As we are also proudly Gympie locals, it meant that our team could respond quickly when site conditions changed, keeping the project moving safely and efficiently.
The TSR approach to commercial projects
Projects like Gympie Library show why councils, schools, and commercial builders across the Wide Bay and South Burnett regions trust TSR.
We deliver end-to-end commercial air conditioning services, from system design and equipment selection through to installation, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance. Our technicians are fully qualified, locally based, and experienced in complex, live-site environments.
The 85kW Temperzone unit was selected following detailed load calculations, future capacity planning, and our long-standing experience with Temperzone systems in Queensland conditions. Proper installation, correct mounting, and thorough commissioning ensure that the library’s systems perform as intended from day one.

Future-proofing community infrastructure
This upgrade is not simply a short-term fix. It’s a long-term investment in the library’s operation and the comfort of the community.
Modern high-efficiency equipment reduces running costs, improves reliability, and lowers the risk of unexpected breakdowns. The system design also allows for future adjustments if spaces are reconfigured or usage changes, protecting council’s investment over the long term.
Ongoing support after installation
Once installed, ongoing maintenance is critical. TSR provides scheduled maintenance programs tailored to high-use community facilities, helping prevent breakdowns, maintain efficiency, and extend system lifespan.
With 24/7 service support available, community buildings like our libraries can rely on a fast response when it matters most.
